Areej and the snails

Dah lama gila tak masak. So bila kali ni aku tiba2 rajin masak, I just HAD to blog about it! (Yeah, I know. Ever since jadi mak orang 4 tahun sekali je aku blogging).

So you see, my 4-year-old son is a die-hard fan of siput sedut (kan dah kata dia lelaki melayu terakhir -refer last post-). Sejak kebelakangan ini macam susah sikit nak dapat siput sedut dekat kedai makan. So hari ini kebetulan nampak ada orang jual (yang belum masak lagi, that is) kat supermarket tengahari tadi so I grabbed a pack.

Balik rumah dengan penuh semangat untuk masak siput for Amru. So I took out half the packet and put em in a bowl. Left them there for a while, and came back about half an hour later to find them AAAARGHHHH!!! They were MOVING!!! Crawling to be exact. With their little tentacles sticking out!!! Crawling right out of the bowl and into the sink. They were EVERYWHERE I tell you!!! (Ok fine, I exaggerated a bit but who doesn't). But it was a sight I will never be able to erase from my memory! And for another half hour later pon aku pun kelu tak terkata thinking bakpe lah supermarket tu jual kat aku siput yang masih hidup dan pandai bergerak. Masa kat supermarket tadi pandai pulok para siput ini duk diam2 dalam plastic.

So of course lah aku tak kutip balik para siput yang sedang merayap itu. Good thing my superhero mom (yang tak takut siput) and yang kebetulan ada waktu aku menjerit tadi tolong kutip and boil them in water. Sampailah mereka mati. Fuh! Lega! And apparently (according to my mom) siputs are sold dalam keadaan masih hidup sebab kalau dah mati maka mereka akan berbau. Ok fine. Dah boleh terima that fact. But trust me THIS IS THE LAST TIME IM BUYING SIPUT FROM THE MARKET!

So ini lah hasil the whole siput encounter. It's easy to make. Especially for a busy mom like me. Rebus air dengan serai yang di tumbuk. Blend bawang besar, cili sikit and halia, bubuh dalam air rebus tu with the siputs (yang dah mati ok). Tambahkan sikit serbuk pati ayam, garam, gula and santan.

Apart from that, I also made ikan jacket cencaru. Which I sapukan this Kokomo thing dan just letak atas api. Dulu masa first time dengar nama Kokomo (when my sister in law kat UK pesan suruh beli) aku ingatkan sejenis ubat gigi Jepun. Rupanya yang tu Kodomo. Ok, I sooo donno anything.
This cencaru very yummy when eaten with kicap manis dengan cili potong and lime.

And since I'm on a non-veggie diet, the ulam in the picture adalah sekadar hiasan untuk laki aku makan.

Simple kampung dishes for people who are trying to watch their weight. #journeytokurusness
